Two-color ribbing for the body, alternating colors on every row, and knitting in the row below on every knit stitch. Creates predominant knit stitches on front in color A, with the purl stitches (color B) receding into the background for a shadow effect (but it is not shadow knitting). The reverse side of the fabric has the predominant knit stitches in color B, and the receding purls in color A.
