Most people are fascinated with beautiful and aesthetic things. But I’ve always been a different kind of a person. I’m one of those weird, wild ones. I’m fascinated with tyres/ tires, lol. Yup! I love the shape, the texture and the aesthetic beauty of tyres.

I just don’t know why, I just love them. I love them so much that I love designing things that look like a tyre or somehow associated with tyres. In fact, I have 2 of my patterns with the tyre theme, one of them is the “Tyre Bangle” and another one is “Tyre Tracks”.

It all began when I was commissioned to design a skirt and some jewelry using the rubber tubing of a tyre by an budding designer. This was way back in the year 2000. Since then, I have designed the above mentioned 2 patterns and I have more patterns coming up with the tyre theme.

“Tyre Hat” is one of those designs. I made this tam hat in 2010. Then, in 2016, I made the same hat as a gift for my friend. Finally, I have the pattern ready so all of you can also make a Tyre hat for yourself or for others.

Tyre Hat resembles the structure of a tyre. I have used tapestry crochet techniques and puff stitches which brings out the shape and texture of this hat.

It is an intermediate level pattern so a little expertise in crochet is required. Although, I have also added many photos to explain some important steps. So it shouldn’t be that hard to complete this hat. I hope you enjoy wearing a tyre like hat on your lovely noggin.

Skill Level:
Intermediate

Suggested Yarns:
You can use any Super Bulky weight yarn for making this hat or use 2 strands of Aran weight yarn held together like I’ve used.

I used approximately 260-270 yards of Aran weight yarn in main color(A) & 20-30 yards of yarn in contrasting color(B) to make the hat.

I Used:
Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice (100% Acrylic; 170 yds/155m; 3.53 oz, 100 g; CYCA # 4): #125 Taupe(A), 2 balls; #41 Linen(B), 1 ball.

Crochet Hook Size:
6.5 mm/ K crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions:
Stitch Marker(S)
Tapestry Sewing Needle
