This lace-edged garter stitch cowl is provisionally cast on, knit sideways and grafted to form a loop.

It can be any width and length, though two sizes are recommended: Small (approximately 10 x 22”) and large (approximately 8 x 44”). A small cowl, folded so two layers of lace are visible, will snuggle up close to your neck, while a large cowl can be worn draped loosely or wrapped twice.

Use almost any weight yarn with appropriately sized needles. Consider going up a needle size, particularly if you knit tightly, so your cowl will drape.

Yardage depends on your yarn, needles and desired size. A small cowl knit with bulky yarn and US11 needles may require about 125 to 135 yards. A large cowl with worsted or aran and US8 or US9 needles may require about 300 to 330 yards.

In addition to yarn and needles, you will need waste yarn, 2 stitch markers and a tapestry needle.

The pattern is written but includes a lace edging chart.
