To celebrate Universal Children’s Day, here is a simple pattern to make baby legwarmers. They are quick to knit in worsted weight yarn using 4.5mm needles; the rib stitch makes them so stretchy that you can use them for Newborns to toddlers–and they can even be used as wrist warmers for Mom!

NOTE: my legwarmers are about 6 inches long. If you want them longer, knit more rows before the Row 31 Eyelet row. I made them this length because 1 ball of yarn makes these Universal Children’s Day Legwarmers, PLUS a Newborn size Mount Alberta Hood (NOTE: for a newborn hood you just use the worsted yarn and 4.5mm needles with the Adult pattern), PLUS a pair of little Newborn Size soakers using my Bees Knees Soakers pattern–with about 2 feet of yarn leftover. To make a set in larger sizes you will need more yarn!

You can make them larger by Casting On more stitches in groups of 4. For Fingerless Mitts for kids or adults, leave an opening near one end when sewing the sides up! Pretty them up for little girls--use ribbons for ties!
