Garter stitch, stripes, short rows: Unruly adds its own voice to a familiar theme. The shawl is worked from the top down with stripes in three pretty colors. Two stripes widen towards one side of the shawl, followed by two that widen towards the other and so on, while with every color change the stripes grow. Unruly is easy to knit, fun and a perfectly good excuse to spend time deciding what three colors would work best together.

20 sts/40 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10cm) in garter stitch AFTER BLOCKING. Gauge is not crucial for this project, however, to get the dimensions of the shawl pictured it is best to obtain gauge.

Garter tab cast on.
Short rows.

The shawl is worked from the top down in garter stitch, with increases on the edges to create the shape.

Short rows: Any short row technique works well for this shawl. I like the yarn over method of working short rows, which is explained in the pattern.
