Nature and math are both great sources for inspiration. The beautiful patterns of sunflower seeds and Fibonacci numbers have always mesmerized me. I have come a long way to finally present this shawl design honoring both. It is called Usne — Latvian for Thistle. It may not be the plant that radiates coziness and loving warmth, but it is just as beautiful as it is tenacious and for that, I love it.

Differently sized and shaped entrelac blocks are used to create an almost circular shawl that wraps around the shoulders without bunching up. This shawl starts with the 3 squares in the middle of the upper edge and grows outwards as the number of blocks changes in every tier. A simple garter stitch border on one edge and an applied I-cord on the other complement the shawls geometry.
This design works just as wonderfully in garter stitch as in stockinette. Pattern includes instructions for both versions.

This is the most complex of my multi-shape entrelac shawls so far and is designed for the knitter who is very comfortable with entrelac, has tried it all and is ready for a new challenge.

errata: I-cord looks better when attached from the wrong side. This is fixed in the file Aug 27, 2019)
