The sleeves are worked in stocking stitch, as is the first half (approximately) of the body. There are twelve rows of patterning at underarm level which form a ring of diamonds, and above that, both back and front, the stocking stitch is reversed.

If wished the diamond shapes may be decorated with embroidery. Instructions are given, with a small diagram. The white V-neck cardigan on the cover has been embellished in this way.
