Designer’s notes:“This pattern is borrowed from a garment made circa 1918 which is in the collection of the Royal Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh. It is reproduced in Sheila MacGregor’s The Complete Book of Traditional Fair Isle Knitting, opposite page 72. The 1918 garment has only four colors: white and yellow diamonds set on a red and brown background. I retained the light, bright diamonds and the warm background, but used several surprisingly bright accent colors--orange, yellow, pink, light blue--which, scattered in small amounts, do not alter the predominantly neutral feel of the slipover, or the clarity of the light pattern on the darker background.”
