While writing this pattern, I was reminded of a trip I took last summer to Vancouver. In these times when travel isn’t possible, I hope this shawl can remind you of a special trip you have taken or a place you hope to visit.

The Vancouver Harbour Shawl features a lace pattern, reminiscent of little bridges. The triangular shawl is worked from one vertex, increasing along one edge with jagged decreases along the other edge.

A small amount of yarn goes a long way with this pattern, so it is great for that special skein you’ve been saving. The construction means the size is completely adjustable and the pattern works with many yarn weights. Instructions are included to make an increase only shawl.

Level: Easy
The pattern uses basic stitches and features an easy repeat. The increase edge differs with each row and does require some attention. There is a detailed picture tutorial.

Size:
Adjustable.
The pictured shawl used 58g of sport weight yarn and is 59” /150 cm wide and 11” /28 cm deep after blocking.
You will work the increase pattern until you have used approximately 2/3 of your yarn, then work the decrease pattern. For the increase only version, you work the shawl until it reaches your desired size.

The pattern is written in English using US crochet terms. The PDF download includes:

  • The complete pattern for the shawl
  • Instructions to create an increase only shawl
  • A picture tutorial with 24 pictures detailing every row
  • A list of materials
  • A list of abbreviations Two pdfs are included: a printer friendly pattern and a longer tutorial.

I made the pictured shawl with Little Knits Bergamo Light and an E (3.50 mm) crochet hook.
