’’This shawl is named Venus because of the pattern’s central V, but it also reminds me of Sandro Botticelli’s painting Birth of Venus, in which the beautiful Venus emanates from a shell.’’ - Louise Robert

First of all, what is a KAL?
Knit Alongs (KALs) are fun, social activities in which a group of knitters all make the same project in the same period of time.

When does the Mystery KAL start?
The KAL will start on April 25, 2024

How to sign up?
You can purchase either the Venus KAL pattern alone or the knitting kit including the yarn to knit this project. Following your purchase of a kit or the pattern only, an invitation to join our Facebook group will be sent to you. On April 25, 2024, you will receive an e-mail to let you know that the pattern is available.

You have the option to purchase the pattern only or the knitting kit, which contains both the yarn and the pattern needed to knit this project!

In addition to the pattern, you will need the following yarn to knit this shawl:

  • The pattern (sent as a PDF numeric file) - The pattern is included when you purchase a knitting kit.
  • PatricKnits Collection - MERICA (100% untreated merino Rambouillet; 400 m / 100 g) - 3 skeins in contrasting colors - in the kit of your choice

To knit this project, you will require these additional accessories along with the knitting kit:

  • Circular needle of 3.5 mm; US #4, cable length of 100 cm; 40” or more (or size needed to obtain gauge)
  • A needle of 4.5 mm; US #7 to bind-off only (or 1 mm larger than the size needed to obtain gauge) Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers 26 identical or similar stitch markers + 3 different markers to identify the central V (CM, RCM, & LCM)
  • Blocking tools: mat and pins

FINAL SIZE - Width: 168 cm; 70” x Height 69 cm x 27”

GAUGE - 24 sts x 38 rows = 10 cm; 4 inches in stockinette st before blocking and 22 sts x 36 rows = 10 cm; 4 inches in stockinette stitch after blocking.

NOTE - This shawl is formed by a central V set with chevron stripes on either side. Its composition is accentuated by the play of colors, which form soothing sinuous lines right up to the final border, where a lace motif is added. Once the chevron pattern is in place, it’s easy to memorize and a pleasure to knit. You can make it shorter or longer by adding or subtracting the 16 rows of the chevron pattern.

HAVE FUN !!
