From the Knit Picks Website:
This hat is knit sideways, using short row shaping on the crown rather than standard decreasing. The hat can be made either with or without a tassel. If you can’t stand weaving in yarn ends, the tassel is for you—no weaving required. If you don’t like the tassel look and don’t like weaving in ends you’re still in luck because the no tassel option leaves only 4 ends to finish weaving.

Yarn:
Knit Picks Swish Worsted
(100% Superwash Wool; 110 yards/50 grams per ball):
2 colors, 1 ball each

Suggested color combinations:
Bubblegum 23879 & Wisteria 23892
Bordeaux 23877 & Dark Navy 23888
Coast Grey 23881 & Deep Ocean 23890
Truffle 23880 & Capri 23878

Needles
US Size 6 (4.0 mm): 24” circular or straights. Change needle size if necessary to get gauge.

Notions
Stitch marker
Yarn needle
Scissors
Measuring tape

Gauge:
20 sts/29 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch.

NOTE: because this hat is knit sideways, the row gauge is most important to get accurate. Since the hat is knit in eight sections, you can check the gauge after the first section and make adjustments then.

Pattern provides special instructions for joining the beginning provisional cast on to the last edge.
