This pattern and its variations are available from my website. Use this pattern without sleeves as a shell to go under the cardigan. The pink and blue ones pictured at left are done that way. The reason the sleeves look shorter on the blue one is that the yarn I used for that one was very fine. The pink one is done with regular fingering or baby wt. yarn. The striped one is done with different yarns, changing the colors manually. The top one is done with a variegated yarn and a simple cable added in the front.

I work the front and back together in one piece, so there is only one side seam. There are about 100 stitches in the sweater. You could use self-striping sock yarn, but because of the larger size, the stripes would come out narrower than they do for a sock and the sleeves would have wider stripes. For that type of yarn it works out better to make the front and back separately.

wrchili made three of these and found it preferable to pick up stitches around the armhole and knit the sleeves down to the cuff. This would eliminate having to sew in the sleeves at the end. It’s just a matter of whether you would rather pick up stitches and knit tiny sleeves in the round, or knit them flat and seam.
