The inspiration for the Victoria Neckwarmer design was from stitch patterns prevalent in the Weldon’s Series, published in 19th-century Victorian England. The lacy scalloped border was featured in “Weldon’s Practical Knitter, Fifteenth Series”, on a petticoat for a young child.

The diagonal patterning in the original petticoat was a knit/purl pattern. In the neckwarmer the diagonal pattern has been revised to a lace stitch pattern to co-ordinate with the lacy scalloped border.

A few rows of purl are worked to create a scallop fold along the top of the lacy collar, which is both decorative and feminine!

Pattern was professionally tech edited by Robin Melanson.
