This ethnographic mitten uses half of a Latvian braid in the cuff followed by three pairs of knit/purl rows or rows of garter stitch. Cuffs of this type date back to the 18th Century. The mitten requires four colors though only two colors are used at any one time.

Lielvarde is located sutheast of Riga on the Daugava River.
