This adorable asymmetrical sweater uses simple shaping and a silk ribbon closure for a classic look. The newborn size may only require 2 skeins of yarn for some knitters.

The sweater is knit back and forth on a circular needle--24” or longer will work.

The Baby Kimono in Interweave Knits, Summer 2005, is similar in terms of construction but intended for a heavier fingering weight/sport weight gauge.

March 2011: There are some questions about errata for this pattern. There is a printing of the pattern from a few years back in which a line of text was accidentally deleted from neck shaping of the center-opening version. However, this was corrected about 2 years ago, and current versions of the pattern should not have this error.

Regarding the cast-on for the sleeves--its not incorrect! I just looks funny when you first do it. But the pattern is correct as written.
