VOL Stole

Variations on a Theme of Orkney Lace

The stole can be made in a wide variety of yarns from cobweb to DK.

Materials for a Stole without border or lace:

‘cobweb’ weight
(eg a ColourMart 2/28, J&S 1 ply Supreme or Cobweb) about 100 g
pair 3 mm needles

‘lace weight’
(eg a ColourMart 2/14, J&S 2 ply Supreme or 2 ply lace weight) about 120 g
pair 4 mm needles

4 ply/fingering
(eg a ColourMart 3/14, J&S 2 ply jumper weight) about 150 g
pair 5 mm needles

DK weight
pair 5 mm needles

Materials for a Stole with border or lace:

‘cobweb’ weight
(eg a ColourMart 2/28, J&S 1 ply Supreme or Cobweb) about 150 g
pair 3 mm needles
3mm circular needle

‘lace weight’
(eg a ColourMart 2/14, J&S 2 ply Supreme or 2 ply lace weight) about 160 g
pair 4 mm needles
4 mm circular needle

4 ply/fingering
(eg a ColourMart 3/14, J&S 2 ply jumper weight) about 200 g
pair 5 mm needles
5 mm circular needle

DK weight
pair 5 mm needles
5 mm circular needle

Size

About 16 ins wide and 72” long, or as long as you like! The lace adds another couple of inches. You can make your stole wider by adding in multiples of 10 sts.
