From the pattern (and the website):

A toe-up sock with an added mini-gusset to ensure a great fit. Bavarian twisted stitches wander across the foot and up the leg of this sock, with a slight variation of the theme in the cuff. There is enough patterning to keep the interest but a reprieve is given in the stockinette part.
