My grandma and grandpa square danced 2-3 times a week from the 1950’s until the 80’s when my grandpa passed.
This reminds me of a shawl that I saw my grandma wear square dancing when I was a little girl.

It’s a perfect, easy project for newer knitters or a super fast project for more experienced knitters.

I’ve updated the pattern and knit it up in modern yarns but I will treasure the original mimeographed pattern that calls for Melody Yarn by Bucilla with the name of Frilly Cape. Capes were big in the ’70s!

I named it after Walden Pond in Concord since it originated there and would be a perfect weight to wear for a walk around the pond and a visit to Henry David Thoreau’s cabin there.

The longer version of this pattern is also posted and is called Walden- A Simple Ruffled Shawl.
