lacy version of the slouchy beret you see everywhere. start with the tubular cast-on to get that pretty rolled edge.

notions: elastic thread (quadrupled) to add spring-back to the cotton cast-on edge.

ETA: here is a link to the youtube video i used to learn the tubular cast-on. it is taught very efficiently by theresa from littleturtleknits.com

NEW INFO: pattern updated to include row by row instructions on the lace rounds.

ETA: my friend maiu (freddy) modified the pattern to use a bulky yarn: with size 8 needles, c/o 84, do 7 sets of lace around, 3 repeats (30 rounds), k2tog around, knit 5 rows, k2tog around, then tie off as instructed. look how cute!

ETA: tomkai modified the pattern to use laceweight yarn! here’s how she did it:
lace yarn held double throughout.
cast on 104, did the ribbing, then increased to 108 for an extra lace section. she did 5 repeats of the lace pattern, then decreased in the following way:
Row 1: K1, K2tog repeat around.
Row 2: K all
then repeated this sequence until she had 14 st, drew the yarn through the loops and fastened off.
