Wave is a reversible semi-circular scarf made using a combination of garter stitch and modified seafoam stitch. It is very easy (but far from boring) to knit: you only need to be able to cast on, work knit stitches and yarn overs, and to bind off.
Depending on the desired effect you can use variegated or single colour yarns, and different weight yarns, from fingering/ sock yarn to worsted.

Size: Depending on yarn used, approx 19-20 cm/ 7.5-8 in wide and 160 cm/ 63 in long along the outer edge of the semi circle. Length can be easily changed.

Yarn: Smooth wool or wool blend with good stitch definition, fingering to worsted weight, in solid or variegated colours - depending on desired effect. Use yarns that block well.
Yarn amount (to make a scarf approx 160 cm long, measured along the outer edge of the semi circle - any changes in length will change yardage needed):

  • 4 ply/ fingering/ sock yarn: 350 m/ 385 yds
  • DK yarn: 320 m/ 305 yds
  • worsted weight yarn: 285 m/ 275 yds

Gauge and needles: Gauge is not crucial in this project. Use gauge that will give you a soft fabric in garter stitch - if you prefer firmer fabric use needle size as recommended on yarn label; for a more drapey fabric work with needles 1- 2 sizes larger than recommended on yarn label.
