The pattern includes instructions for 6 animals: squirrel, mouse, hare, otter, hedgehog, and fox. The finished toys are approx. 3” tall, and use only a small amount of worsted yarn for each animal. The hat and scarf patterns are also included, and they use small amounts of fingering or sport weight yarn. Skills required include stockinette stitch, garter stitch, m1 increase, decreasing to left and right, changing colours, and sewing seams. The toys are all knit flat, then seamed, stuffed and assembled. However, they are easy to convert to the round, if you prefer.

For extra fun, you can turn all these animals into finger puppets, using the body from my Reindeer or Panda finger puppets (modifying the colours to match the animal you’re making).

(Note: I’ve used worsted yarn for the toys because it is common in Canada and the US. The toys could easily be knit from DK, but you would need to go down a needle size for both the toys and the accessories)
