The A’Nyia Doll was created to honor the memory of A’Nyia Tyra, who sadly lost her battle with brain cancer just 2 days before what would have been her 9th birthday. She was a courageous and generous little girl who quite often took gifts to other sick children who were too sick to go home when she went to the hospital for her own treatments.

A’Nyia was an All Star baseball and basketball player whose dream was to be a coach when she grew up. In April 2019, the A’Nyia Tyra Memorial Athletic Facility was destroyed by tornadoes that ripped through her hometown of Alto, Texas. Proceeds from the sale of this pattern will go to help rebuild this facility. Once that facility has been rebuilt, all subsequent proceeds will go to Texas Children’s Hospital for childhood cancer research.

Those of us at Wing and a Prayer Crochet are so very grateful to the designer, Laura Tegg, for donating this adorable doll pattern.

Notes from the designer, Laura Tegg

When I make my A’Nyia doll using Worsted/4/Aran/10ply weight yarn and a 3mm hook or Light Worsted/3/DK/8ply weight yarn and a 4mm hook, she stands 11” tall. Made from the toes to the top of the head in one go, even the arms are crocheted on.

Other yarn weights and hook sizes can of course be used to create a smaller or a larger doll.
