Yay for leaves! From 1888 Weldon’s Practical Needlework Volume 2, this pattern needed a lot of correcting. There are a multiple of 12 stitches+3 extra stitches. I added 1 selvage stitch on each side for ease of sewing later. There are 20 pattern rows which might be a bit daunting but the 10 wrong side rows are all knit and purl. After working a few rows, the pattern becomes easier to follow visually. This pattern is similar to B. Walker’s “Fern or Leaf-Patterned Lace” on p. 208 in her first Treasury of Knitting Patterns but Weldon’s version is reversible! Weldon’s version is also slightly larger. The back side isn’t identical to the front but it’s very close!
Skills: long-tail cast on, knit, purl, slip, k2tog, SKP (slip-knit-PSSO), slip-k2tog-PSSO and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able thread/yarn will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.

15 yards of #10 crochet cotton will make about 23 rows (2”) of a 39-stitch-side strip at the stated gauge.
