I am a voracious reader. In 2016, I had a goal to read sixty books and
read eighty-five. My goal for 2017 is a hundred, and as of the end of
April I’m already thirty in. When I am out walking, in my favorite chair
knitting, cooking dinner, or folding laundry, I listen to audio books. But
at night, I read physical books in bed. I just love the feel and smell of real
books. Yes, I have a tablet, and I read books to my boys at night from
it, but I really enjoy the feel of a book in my hand. If you read physical
books, you need good bookmarks. I often have two or three books going
at once, so I employ a number of bookmarks at the same time.
This one is not only a reminder of the message, but it’s also super fun to
knit. It’s done with the double knitting method so the back is a mirror
image of the front and all the stranding from the colorwork is hidden
inside the pocket created by double knitting. If you do not know how
to double knit, there is a great class on Craftsy.com called “Adventures
in Double Knitting with Alasdair Post-Quinn.” You can learn all about
the technique and how to knit both in the flat and in the round in this
technique.
After watching me knit this piece up, my nine-year-old son requested I
double knit him a bookmark with a cat motif, his favorite animal. I’m on it!
