The cable pattern on the “right” side of this hat looks complex, but the narrow, interlocking knit columns are created by simple four-over-four cable crosses. Should you prefer a more traditional undulating cable, simply wear with the “wrong” side out (see last 3 photos).
Shown as a slouchy beanie, all sizes except the smallest can also be worked with a shorter crown for a more fitted look (simply work one less repeat of cabled pattern).
Wellfleet is worked in the round from the bottom up, and is shown both with and without an optional pompom. Instructions for the cabled stitch pattern are given in written form only.
Difficulty Intermediate: Skills include working in the round, cable knitting, and a special decrease which is similar to a Threeneedle Bind-Off.
Finished Sizes 14 (16¾, 19½, 22½)”/35.5 (42.5, 50, 57) cm circumference, unstretched, to fit babies/toddlers, large children, small-medium adults, and large adults. Shown in size 19½”/50 cm with 2½”/6.5 cm negative ease.
