West Coast is inspired by one of my most favourite places in the world: the stunning, wild West Coast of New Zealand. From the highest peaks down to the rugged coastline, West Coast inspires a deep love of the outdoors. The West Coast beanie is perfect to keep your head warm on those colder days! It is a stylish yet practical unisex beanie for everyday wear and an easy repetitive pattern for the beginner.

Construction
West Coast is written as a beanie and slouch beanie, and knit in the round from the brim upwards.
The brim is a garter or 1 x 1 rib stitch, followed by a slip stitch pattern that travels through the body to the crown.

The pattern is written for 4ply, DK and worsted weight yarn, and 8 - 9 sizes.

You will need to know how to work small circumferences in the round. If you do not know how to do this you may need to reference a knitting book or online tutorial.

Sizing
West Coast has negative ease built into the pattern, it is designed to ensure a snug fit while being worn.
Please take the time to measure head circumference in centimetres, and select the size closest – if needed, size up rather than down due to the snug fit. Ages given are just a suggestion – measuring is always preferable.

NOTE: For safety reasons, slouch hats should NOT be placed on children under the age of 12 months, due to potential for the slouch to slip down over the face and obscure the nose and mouth. Babies can not be relied upon to move the hat if it covers their airway.
