“The Border Mill’s North Coast yarn range has 50 tweedy colours, making it ideal for achieving the distinctive blending of Fair Isle knitting,” explains designer Mary Henderson. “It’s named for the North Coast 500 driving route in Scotland, with each shade reflecting a location on the route. My cushion has elements of traditional Fair Isle knitting: stranded colourwork with only two colours in any round, knitted in the round without shaping (a good project for someone exploring Fair Isle for the first time), corrugated rib for the buttonbands, and a three-needle cast-off. The only sewing up required is to join the cushion’s base.”
