Whimsy is a slightly swingy, open-front cardigan with a lacy knit shawl collar. The construction is top-down with a slight gathering in the body at yoke. The body of the sweater is knit in one piece, with the collar piece knitted separately and sewn on. A contrasting knitted-on I-cord trim defines the yoke.

The collar seam is the only seam on this garment. The fronts are wide enough to wear closed with a shawl pin, or you can sew on a few buttons and make a couple of loops. If you want a size that is in between the pattern sizes, I would advise you to start out with the smaller of the two sizes and then continue to increase until you are in between the two. Top-down raglans are very easy to alter this way. I intentionally made the collar piece so that it would be a bit long and hang below the sweater length, you can alter this as desired!

You will want to have size 4 circular needles in 16” and 24” lengths, and I prefer a short straight needle to knit the collar piece, though it’s not necessary. You need a couple of short size 3’s for the i-cord trim, or use two double-pointed needles.
