You can adjust the size of these cute mittens by changing the gauge. The recommended gauge gives you a pair of mittens that is 10 cm wide. If you want/ need them to be smaller you need a higher gauge and if you want/need them to be larger you need the gauge to be lower. 32 sts/10 cm gives you a mitten that is approx 11 cm wide.
You can adjust the gauge by changing the size of your needles and/or yarn. I recommend you to make a swatch.
