Wicked Warm Hats For the Family
In the state of Maine, “wicked” is a definite compliment—these hats are super warm! The design includes a lined brim and earflaps, giving them a snug and cozy fit, keeping cold winds at bay There is a table from which you can choose the size hat you need, along with your preferred yarn weight—including Sport, DK, Worsted and Aran options.
SIZES: 8 sizes—from child to adult large.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS:
Circumference: 15 to 24 inches in circumference
Length: adjustable
GAUGE: 18, 20, 22, or 24 stitches = 4”/10cm on gauge size needles (over blocked colorwork pattern).
NEEDLES:
Size to obtain desired gauge.
Choose needle types base on your preferred method of working small circumferences in the round. Options include magic-loop on a 32-inch circular needle, or a 16-inch circular needle and 4 8-inch double-pointed needles.
For I-cord—2 double-pointed needles 1 size smaller than used for the hat
Crochet Hook size G
YARN: Sport, DK, Worsted or Aran weight yarn for the main part of the hat. Choose a hem lining yarn that is a bit lighter than the main yarn in a soft blend (alpaca, kid mohair, angora)
Body of Hat—2 contrasting colors, 1 50g skein of each color
Hem lining, earflaps and tassel— 1 50g skein
NOTIONS: 2 stitch markers, 2 12-inch lengths of smooth yarn for stitch holders, 3 yards smooth worsted weight yarn, tapestry needle, basting pins, 4-inch piece of cardboard for tassel
SKILLS USED: working in the round, decreases (k2tog, ssk), using a chart, 2-color colorwork, picking up stitches, I-cord, double-knitting, provisional cast-on
