Mountaineering: the sport or hobby of scrambling up or short stretches of basic grade rock climbing as well as crossing glaciers to reach the summit of a mountain and take in the 360 degree beauty that surrounds you.

Widgi Mountaineer Hat: A fashionable hat to keep your ears warm and prevent dangerous heat loss when you are mountaineering. (Widgi is the nickname of YMCA Camp Widgiwagan in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness near Ely, Minnesota.)

Constructed in easy-care and easy to work with Lion Brand Wool-Ease, or other worsted weight yarn, this hat is a easy to knit stranded color work hat. Approximately 1 oz of each different color is required so the pattern is a good use of scraps. Pattern provides written instructions and chart for a slouchy, beanie-type version topped with pom-pom, or tassel or braid.

NOTE: gauge is measured over 2” of the color work pattern.
