When my children were babies they preferred blankets made of yarn over any other blanket. They loved the texture and would tangle their little fingers in the loose stitches and rub the blanket on their face. So precious! When I heard a friend of mine was finally pregnant again (after having lost a baby at 20 weeks) I knew I wanted to make her something special, a baby blanket full of texture and made of only the finest fibers. This is how this pattern came to be.

The pattern was designed specifically for Blue Sky Fibers organic cotton yarn (what they call Skinny, aka sport weight). This yarn consists of many very thin threads that are plied together tightly resulting in a sturdy and soft yarn. The hook size used, along with the textured stitches, leave just enough space for baby fingers to reach through and snuggle easily.

I used 6 skeins of yarn, two skeins of three different colors. The colors seen in the photos are Peony, Gravel, and Frozen for the first blanket, and Basil, Sprout, and Zinc in the second blanket. These colors and many others are all available at Yarn Baby: www.yarnbaby.biz
