All money raised from the selling of this hat goes to a new project K1R1:Knit1 Reach1
This project is dedicated to the lives of local kids through friendship and mentoring, time invested in them and their creative expression. We believe this can be done through needles and yarn.
Kids will gather in small groups for a home cooked meal or yummy dessert served at the table, a time focused on listening to their conversations and developing friendship.
Afterwards, step by step, stitch by stitch, these young people will learn that they are a wealth of untapped creativity and that they have much to contribute to the handcrafted art world…our future ambassadors of knitting.

This pattern is the first in a series of patterns to raise money for this cause directly being applied to needles and yarn and eventually fiber. Your donation does not go to pay for anything else. Time, instruction, food etc. are donated.

Pattern Highlights & Specifics:

In Hawaiian, something quick is said to be “wikiwiki.” With this hat I envisioned a fast way of turning beautiful handspun in to wearable art! It is a simple, straightforward knit with a few bits to keep you interested right off, but mellows in to stockinette in the round to showcase the handspun’s unique beauty (or any yarn really).

18” 46 cm band circumference unstretched
7” 18cm from brim to crown

Yarn:
•1 skein Halo Heather or Orbit Heather (100% handspun wool) 120 yds/100g

•One 24” circular needle in US 9 5.5 mm

•tapestry needle

This pattern is also available free with purchase of a skein of handspan from Infinite Twist when you use the code “withmel” at checkout. Profit I make through the kit also goes complete toward the K1R1 Project.

IMPORTANT: There is a thread here on Ravelry where you can win a skein of handspan yarn in the hopes of helping get some fun project suggestions for our groups of soon to be knitter, who want their first project to be hats! Please head here: http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/withmel/3155746/1-25 for more info and a chance to win!
