The Flowers and Leaves of the Posy which decorates the top of the Wild Flowers Mason Jar Posy Cosy are made from a 1927 design I found in an Australian newspaper. The flowers and leaves were attached to wire stems, twisted together to form a posy to pin to the front of a dress. Flowers on the cosy can be made removable by adding a pin to back of posy, or a button on individual flowers that fits through double crochet stitches!

The Wild Flowers Mason Jar Posy Cosy is designed to fit over a 500 ml/1 pint standard-mouth mason jar. They will help keep foods and beverages warm or cold, and protect them from bumps in a lunch bag. The handle can be made short or you can make it long enough to wear over your neck for hands-free walking.

Size & Gauge
The finished cosy is 4 ½ inches across and 5 inches high not including lid.
Using Bernat Handicrafter cotton my gauge working in (Canadian/US) double crochet is approximately 3 rounds per 2 inches/6 stitches per 2 inches using a 5mm hook. My gauge with the wool yarn was a little smaller, so I worked one extra round on the sides before I did the last round.

Materials needed:

Optional: Wide mouth mason metal jar lid (insert in base for a solid bottom that sits nicely if you use it as a little bag).

Worsted or aran #4 yarn: ---I measured only approximate yarn amounts. You will need about 71g/2.5oz. of Bernat Handicrafter to make a cosy, or the equivalent amount of other yarns.

5 mm hook (USH) for cosy; 4mm hook for flowers & leaves. You will also need a bodkin/yarn needle to weave in ends and, of course, scissors.
