Willow is a top-down cardigan with raglan shaping, with both a refined and casual style. The button-band is simultaneously integrated into the pattern and does not require picking up stitches. I-cord edging frames the collar, hem, cuffs, and button-bands for an extra, refined detail.
The pattern begins with an i-cord at the collar, then proceeds with short-row shaping at the back neck for a better fit – with detailed row-by-row directions for added clarity.
The cardigan features a cable and lace pattern that begins on the back and gently wraps around to the front panels.
Possible modifications include the option of fewer buttons (instead of as-written) and the option of a shorter sleeve length – pattern includes directions for full-length sleeves, but 3/4-length sleeves are also possible with this top-down construction.
NOTE: the yarn I used in the sample is technically classified as sport weight, but behaves as a DK. For yarn substitution, a DK weight yarn may better provide pattern gauge.

Pattern includes detailed instructions with:

  • detailed row-by-row short-row directions, including a photo tutorial link,
  • detailed stitch counts (as a separate PDF file),
  • charts also include written directions,
  • directions are color-coded according to size
