This is my second Prehistoric Sock pattern. This one is based on Bronze Age pottery from an area called Wilsford in the famous county of Wiltshire (think Stonehenge, Avebury etc). The texture evokes some of the simple patterns used over 4,000 years ago. If you get the chance I can highly recommend visiting the Wiltshire Museum in Devizes to see the originals I was inspired by!

It is a top down/cuff down sock pattern knitted on size 2.25mm/ US1 DPNS although users can use Magic loop/ 2 circular needles as preferred. You may wish to use markers for end of row or pattern repeats.

Yarn used is West Yorkshire Spinners (WYS) Signature 4ply but you can use any 4ply sock yarn. One 400g ball of the WYS 4ply was sufficient for a single pair of the large socks without any customisation. Balls required will vary depending on your choice of yarn. If you do extend leg length or have unusually long feet be sure to have more yarn than recommended.

The leg and heel flap patterns are provided as charts. Although I also provide written instructions for the heel flap I do not provide them for the leg. If you have problems reading charts this may not be the pattern for you!

The pattern comes in small, medium and large but is customisable.

Foot circumference (unstretched): 6.25 (7.25, 8)” / 16 (18, 20.5)cm

Leg height: 5.5 (5.5, 7.8)” / 14.5 (14.5, 20)cm
