This cowl is designed to show off yarn with long color changes. It takes only one skein of Noro Silk Garden Sock Yarn, so you can have some very affordable luxury. Start with a provisional cast on, knit flat like a scarf, and graft the two ends together when the knitting is complete.

The winding effect is created by short rows, so the colors do not line up horizontally. There is a simple lace pattern on the edges. The pattern has both charts and written directions. The pattern is easy to memorize. You can easily alter the length by adding or subtracting repeats. As written, the cowl is long enough to double around your neck for warmth, or let it hang down like a scarf.
