Winnie’s Lace Shawlette begins at center back and is worked downward. The shawlette starts with stocking stitch and transitions to garter eyelet bands. The lower lace pattern continues through the center back panel for design continuity. Make one (M1) increases are used instead of the traditional yarn over increases, eliminating a prominent back spine.
Experience with M1 increases and top-down shawl construction is helpful.
The lavendar shawl was my prototype; I added pattern repeats since I had 500+ yardage. Since the lace pattern repeats, you can also increase the size of the shawlette if you wish, and if you have additional yardage.
7/13/11: This was one of my first patterns, designed before I purchased charting software. It is charted in Excel. I will be revising the pattern, using the software, in early 2012. Knitters who purchased this pattern prior to the revision will receive a complimentary copy of the improved pattern.
