A centre start crochet pattern

This pattern is based on the triangular scarf design “Summer Sprigs” published by Esther Chandler. See here in Ravelry or Esther’s blog at makemydaycreative.com for a free download of the original “Summer Sprigs” pattern.

The original pattern starts with long rows that decrease in length giving a triangular scarf shape on completion.
This “Winter Buds” version starts at one point of the triangle and rows increase in length until the scarf is a suitable size.

This modified pattern is available in a UK crochet version and in a US crochet version. Click the download button then choose which one you want.

See Esther’s original pattern for added borders. This modified pattern creates the central triangle of the scarf only.

You can use any weight of yarn with a hook size chosen to suit your yarn.
A smooth thin yarn worked with a small hook with give a light delicate pretty lacy scarf. However you could easily try DK or Worsted weight as an experiment. One advantage of working from the centre outwards is that with just a few minutes work you can see and feel the fabric texture and motif sizes.

The scarf can be made any size - without any planning ahead. Just keep working more rows until the triangle has grown big enough.
