Living in the northeast (where it start snowing in October and doesn’t stop until May) winter children are the norm and when I found out that my brother and sister-in-law were expecting a child in October the idea of this blanket was formed.

I wanted to create something that was super gender neutral and would be suitable for gift giving but not Christmas eccentric. This is what I came up with. The main body of this baby blanket is knit in one piece using garter ridges and valleys to form the squares of the blanket. The little hats are then knit separately and sewn on.

The blanket requires 660 yards for the main body of the blanket, 110 yards for the border and the little “X” embellishments and very little for the little hats feel free to use what you have it’s a great stash buster!
