After spending many hours in the cold under a sky full of magically twinkling stars in the north of Sweden, we were lucky to see northern lights, from faint to breathtaking marvellous. This unforgettable experience inspired me to create a pattern, which I therefore called Winter Stars (even available on Ravelry as Winter Stars Mittens).

Foot circumference: S/M approx. 20-21 cm, M/L approx. 22 cm
Foot length: adjustable

Yarn
Runningyarns Soft Sock 80% extrafine merino / 20% polyamide
100 g = 400 m / 437 yds
Approx. 85 g (340 m / 371 yards) for sample M size pair of socks (EUR 41 / foot circumference 21 cm)
50-55 g Color A (red)
30-35 g Color B (off white)
5-10 g Color C (anthracite)

Gauge
34 sts x 36 rnds 10 cm / 4” on needles 2.25 - 2.5 (size S/M)
32 sts x 35 rnds 10 cm / 4” on needles 2.5 - 3.0 (size M/L)

Double pointed needles 2.25mm – 2.5mm (S/M)
resp. 2.5 - 3.0 mm (M/L)
depending on gauge and desired size / foot circumference

I knit my socks using double pointed needles.
Of course you can also use the Magic Loop method.

MENS SIZE
Made some little pattern changes:
Worked a cuff in place of the Latvian Braid:
Needle Size US 1 1/2 - EUR 2.5 - 12 R p2, k2
Worked the socks with Needle Size US 2 1/2 - EUR 3.0.
Gauge - 32 sts x 35 rnds 10 cm / 4” - Size 44 (I knit firmly).
Added one background color round (anthracite) between the little pattern elements.
