From Handknit Holidays:

"Knitting with wire and beads can be a spiritual experience, says designer Annie Modesitt.  The feeling of slipping the beads along the wire as well as the color, texture, and brightness of this medium all invite introspection and provide sensations not common to ordinary knitting.  Particularly unusual is the experience of seeing individual knit stitches backlit by soft candlelight, which is what you’ll enjoy after knitting these unique votive sleeves.  For a menorah, knit eight in one height, and one slightly large, then arrange them in a semicircle.  Or, if you wish, use them in a different numbers and arrangements to add a unique touch to any celebration of light."

Using 24 gauge Artistic Wire, each Votive takes 5 yards of wire.  Also used, are 140 - 200 size 6-8 glass beads for each votive.  Gauge is not essential for this project.
