Two dreams came true: finding the perfect yarn for working this design that had been in the back of my designer-brain for so long, AND having the possibility of visiting the mountains, valleys and fjords of my native country. IAll pictures were taken by my daughter in Jotunheimen, Norway. When the pattern was created a third dream came true; the pattern was tested by skilfull and talented knitters

Design
A relaxed and, at the same time, elegant, pullover to be worn throughout the colder months of the year. A broad, ribbed hem leads beautifully to the soft cables of the front, the ribbed pattern hugs your body as well as making it comfy to wear. The cables follow the sleeves from cuff to neckline. Sleeves are set-in (integrated in the knitting), starting from raglan-shaping to “semi-saddle-shoulders”.

Construction
The contstruction of the pullover is completely seamless.
The lower body and sleeves are worked bottom-up and in-the-round from cast-on to underarms. Pieces are joined, and upper body is worked in one piece over body and sleeves to the neckline. Sts are bound-off for the neckline and work is continued back and forth. Sts are picked up along the front for neckilne. Underarm sts are either grafted or bound-off using the 3-needle bind-off method (or seamed, if you prefer).

Sizes
Finished bust measurements, worked at gauge: X-small 91cm/36” – would suit sizes 32” – 36” Small 99cm/39” – would suit sizes 36 – 39” Medium 106cm/42” – would suit sizes 39 – 42” Large 114cm/45” – would suit sizes 42 – 45” X-large 123cm/48.5” – would suit sizes 45 – 49” Sample is made in size 1, with a couple of inches of ease. The pullover is supposed to be generous.

Materials
Yarn: I recommend that you use a worsted weight yarn with great stitch-definition. It is important that you work according to gauge to achieve a great result! I used the beautiful worsted weight yarn, Drift, from Shibui. This yarn comes in skeins of 50 g/1.75 oz and 101 meters/110 yards. You will need 9/10/12/13/15 skeins of this specific yarn to work the pullover. Needles: A long circular needle, 80 cm/32”, needle size 4 mm/US6 to work the ribbed hem of the lower body. A long circular needle, 80cm/32”, needle-size 4.5 mm/US7 to work the main body, and the upper body.
A set of 5 dpns (or a circular needle, if working the magic loop), needle-size 4 mm/US6 to work the cuffs. A set of 5 dpns (or a circular needle, if working the magic loop), needle-size 4.5 mm/US7 to work the sleeves. A small circular needle, 40cm/16”, needle-size 4 mm/US6 to work the neckline. Notions: 10 stitch-markers. Cable-needle. Tapestry needle. Separate holders. Row counter.

Gauge
21 sts/28 rounds = 10 cm/4” in rib-pattern, (k2, p2), when slightly stretched out.

The pattern

  • measurements are in cm’s as well as in inches
  • all necessary stitch-counts and measurements are given
  • cables are charted, as well as written out round-by-round
  • there is a schematic Knitting skills: intermediate. You should be able to work in the round, work simple cables following instructions and/or charts, pick up sts, bind off sts. Graft the underarm sts (or bind-off using the 3-needle bind-off method, or seam).

The pattern is tested by skillfull knitters. Take a look at their wonderful pullovers for inspiration:)
