A twist on a traditional design!

Sweet puff like stitches and some lovely basic stitches combine together resulting in a gorgeously textured hat. Worsted weight yarn is stitched into the loveliest texture - no one would ever guess that you did this hat in worsted yarn. The squish is SO delicious!.

If you know my designs, you know that I believe in making each pattern your own. Never feel locked in to a hook size or a particular yarn.

This pattern - along with many of my patterns - is done without stitch counts. Measurements, versus gauge, are what are important in this one. If you love to experiment with yarn and hook combos, then this pattern will be a fun one for you! If you are not comfortable working without provided stitch counts then you may not be comfortable working with this pattern.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Interesting puff like stitches work their way into a ‘cable look’ around the body of this hat. The result - a hat with such great STRETCH and TEXTURE!

Worked from the bottom up - this hat is easily adjusted for width and height sizing.

The beginning of the hat is done using either a foundation double crochet as the starting round or a traditional ribbed band. It is highly recommended that you be comfortable doing a foundation double chain before attempting this hat option. Learning this technique is a game changer especially for making hats…and pay extra attention to your tension as it is common to change your tension unintentionally as you transition from the foundation chain to the body of the hat.

Measurement starting points are provided for 1-5 years, 6-12 years, Small Adult, Large Adult. It is encouraged that you have fun and play with different hook sizes to achieve the end result that works for you! I will often go up a half or full hook size just to see what the effect will be with the yarn I am using. Try it! You might surprise yourself!

A blank sizing chart is provided in the pattern so that you can write down the hook and yarn combos that work for you as well as the measurements that are perfect for the size of hat you are making.

Variegated yarns look AMAZING with this pattern as does color blocking and striping. SO many ways to play with color with this design. Have fun and enjoy!!
