If you’re a fan of the Starz Outlander series than this is the pattern for you. It’s my interpretation of Donalda Gilchrist’s Wool Waulking Mitts from the first season.

I selected yarn that was readily available in the United States. The base of the shawl is knit in about 1/5 skein of Lion Brand Fishermen’s Wool (brown heather).

PLEASE NOTE: The Lion Brand Fishermen’s Wool is described as both Aran and Worsted weight yarn. This is very important to know as it will affect your gauge. I found the Fishermen’s Wool to be lighter weight than the worsted which was a little confusing to me.

This pattern employs the following knitting techniques: knit; purl; yarn over; pass slip stitch over

I hope you enjoy knitting my Outlander recreations as much as I enjoy creating them. If you have questions - please visit my Ravelry group page - http://www.ravelry.com/groups/major-knitter-designs - and check out the Wool Waulking Mitts thread to see if someone has already answered your question, or to get ideas, tips, and suggestions.

FREE GIFT: As my free gift to you, I’ve included a miniature version of this pattern (using Knit Picks Palette Hale Heather and US Size 2/2.75 mm needles) so you can knit a matching set for your 18” doll.

Thank you visiting my page and looking at my pattern.

Happy knitting,
Jennifer
