I fell in love with some delicious eggplant purple and mustard yellow BSA Bulk yarn and stared at it for a long time before experimenting with this wonderful hat pattern and a tight cowl. During a cold, windy winter in the Midwest, I knew I needed a really thick, warm hat to keep my ears and head warm and this was the perfect solution. And then I went crazy buying skeins and skeins of super bulky yarns and now I have a stack of hats!

This hat is a great winter hat and perfect for windy climates. The bulky yarns knit up to a thick, wonderful seed stitch fabric that is fun to touch, wear and look at. And who can resist a giant, fluffy pompom? Fashion and warmth equals a better winter.

Check out the matching COWL pattern in my Ravelry shop too!

Note Blue Sky Alpaca Super Bulky yarn is deliciously soft but it may STRETCH. This sizing works well for this yarn but if your hat stretches too much, don’t be afraid to frog and decrease the stitches when you knit it back up. (Yes, I frogged mine twice to get just the right sizing for this pattern-it was painful but VERY worth having a soft hat that I wear all winter.)

Photo Notes
Mustard Yellow hat is knit in Blue Sky Alpacas Super Bulky (required 2 skeins)
Ocean Blue hat is knit in Cascade Yarns Magnum (required 1 skein)
Black and Red hats are knit in Ella Rae Mega (required 1 skein, great yarn for the money but harder to find)
