Wümmete
This elegant beauty of a shawl
with its interesting structures
takes its name from the process
of harvesting the grapes: it starts
off with an earthy, warm pattern,
goes into the roots of the grapes
and finally ends with a light array
of leaves - what better shawl to
wear in autumn!

Construction:
This unusual shawl is worked from top-down. It starts as a classic Pi-Shawl, as per Elizabeth Zimmermann. A knitted-on, cabled border is worked in the middle of the shawl to change the direction of the knitting. Sts are picked up, the shawl worked top-down again.
