This net/weave patterned hat is designed to provide a double thickness over the ears for most wearers (via an extra-wide brim), or simply the ability to fit people with large heads, big hair, etc. If you do not want the extra length, you can simply work fewer repeats of the body pattern. Each repeat is approximately an inch and a half long, and the hat is about 14 inches long as designed, about 3-4 inches of which forms the brim on people with average-sized heads.

The weave pattern continues through the decreases, which makes for a somewhat challenging knit, but a lovely finish.
