The Wylch & Wetter (Willows and Water in Frisian
language) shawl is based on a similar sweater design. And
the sweater pattern was inspired by unique elements that
are typical for the landscape in the region of Friesland in the
northern part of the Netherlands; the ‘marren’ and ‘sleatsjes’
- wetter - (lakes and en ditches) with on their borders,
always the pollarded willows - wylchen -
You recognise them in the structured stitches of the sweater
and of this shawl. You can see the twigs and catkins of the
willows and the ripple stitches, which point to the water.

CONSTRUCTION
The shawl has a triangular shape. You start knitting at the
neck edge by casting on and knitting a small rim, which long
side firms the base for the shawl.
The sample is knitted in Malabrigo Arroyo yarn, a DK/ sport
weight thread of 100 % Superwash Merino Wool - colour
131 Sand Bank
It comes in 100 gr skeins, with 306 mtrs (335 yards) on it.
The gauge is 20-22 st = 4 inches = ca. 10 cm, worked in
stockinette stitch
There were 4 skeins used for this shawl.
Of course you could choose another yarn as long as lengths,
weight and most important, the gauge
equals the original yarn.

NEEDLES
Circular needles 3,5 and 4 eu size, with a length of 80 or
