X-Oh!

…is a new and unusual concept in pattern writing! It’s published by Edinburgh Yarn Company Ltd (who are the team behind Edinburgh Yarn Festival) and there will be more designs appearing.

The pattern comes alongside a greetings card: the design on the front is your chart, and if you follow the pattern you’ll make a simple hat with a colourwork band: in this case it’s a Fair Isle X and O motif.

What knitter wouldn’t like to receive a card that’s also a pattern - or maybe you want to make the hat to send with the card. Either way, it’s a very knitterly way to say you’re thinking of someone.

Materials needed:

150m/160yds DK yarn in main colour (not shown, your choice!); 6 contrast colours. We used 6 rnds turquoise, 3 rnds aqua, 10 rnds black, 4 rnds light grey, 4 rnds oatmeal, 1 rnd gold for the example on show here.
